We are driving from San Fran to Monterey in July and we also want to drive down to see the Bixby Creek Bridge ( it's a Big Little Lies thing

Yes this part is open. You can currently get as far as McWay Falls from Monterey.

Yeah that's fine, its only if you want to get from there to LA you have trouble and have to go back up to Monterey to go inland

Yes we did exactly that. We checked in to our hotel at midday andthendid the 17 Mike drive, then down to Bixby bridge. Lovely agternoon. I'm also a big little lies fan. I re-watched the box set on the plane on the way over!
