MagicBand 2 Coming to Walt Disney World Resort

The Disney Blog has posted about a new MagicBand is coming to the Walt Disney World Resort as part of Disney's continuing push to innovate and personalise guest's vacation experience.

MagicBand 2 was just unveiled by Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek during a D23's Destination D: Amazing Adventures presentation.

MagicBand 2 will feature a new design for the band itself. While the design helps make MagicBand 2 more versatile and customizable it'll still work like the current MagicBand. You will be able to link My Disney Experience to your MagicBand 2, which can serve as a theme park ticket, access to FastPass+ selections, Disney PhotoPass card as well as a room key for Disney Resort guests.

MagicBand 2 will make its resort-wide debut soon.

And then this "MagicPuck" can be fitted into other accesories, like a lanyard or keychain:

So, a lot more options for Disney to sell you stuff.

Anyway, the new MagicBands look great.

Am I missing something here ? Apart from looking different does it have any new capabilities or is this something for the future ?

Does anybody know how 'soon' the new wristbands will be rolled out? I shall be arriving on 30th November so may not be soon enough for us I guess.

They look fab - my only reservation is that teens who like to fidget and mess with things are going to pop the middle out and lose it!

Might not tell them that it comes out!

You can swap the middle part (the "puck" as people seem to be calling it) which contains the RFID chip and battery into another holder - like a keyring, lanyard, or special decorated strap.

Also, in time I'd guess that Disney might sell other things to fit into the holes of the strap. So, when you come home, you'd be able to pull out the puck and replace it with a watch, for example.

Admittedly, Disney could've just sold RFID-enabled lanyards and keyrings without the puck.

Apparently, the new bands will be issued to WDW annual pass holders in December and from January 2017 resort guests will start to receive them. I guess they'll start being sold in the stores soon after that.

Hmm not sure about that on my tiny wrist as it looks bigger, like a watch even.

It looks quite chunky so I'm not keen on the new design.
