Transferring photos from phone to PC

Hi everyone I hope you may be able to help.

Recently back from a road trip around Florida at Christmas and need to transfer photos from my Samsung S7 edge to my PC. I have done this before with my old phone but not this one. I have attached phone to PC by the original USB cable but my PC cannot find it. I have also looked in File Explorer looking for a external device without success.

When looking at the phone it shows it is charging at the top right hand side but when I pull down from the top 'Android System' says it is transferring media files via USB not charging.

Can anyone help please?

See if you have the option "transfer photos (PTP)" instead of transfer files.

Otherwise, could you do it via dropbox or another cloud service?

Thanks for replying - this is so frustrating - its a simple process afterall.

Under Use USB for
I have the option to transfer media files, transfer images,Connect MIDI and charging. the first one is ticked. but my phone is still showing a charging - it doesn't matter which one I tick.

I am using my original charging cable.

Dropbox does not have enough storage unless I pay £7.99 per month. Would I then use Dropbox like I would File Explorer - Hubbie plans to do a photobook?

Upload to google drive on your phone. Its free rather than pay dropbox.

You might not have the driver on your PC for the phone. If you install Samsung Kies it will install the driver plus it allows you to backup the phone to the PC as well.
