A big well done to your son you must be so proud. Also I would like to say thank you for sharing as I do worry about my 5 year old daughter who has ASD what her future could be like but anything is possible x

Bless you. If you knew him at 5 compared to now as he approaches 22 you wouldn't think him the same person. He still frustrates me immensely, with this driving for example he blames the car if he stalls, or the gearstick if he doesn't get it in gear properly! We are leaving him home alone next month for 6 nights (longest ever) but it take plenty of advance planning, making sure all the shopping is in, I've cooked meals for the freezer so he can just microwave them, asked the neighbours if he can ask them for help if he's struggling. We keep in touch umpteen times a day, it's hard work but it has to be done. When we aren't around anymore he's got no one apart from his brother, who very much leads his own life. Luckily one of his jobs he works with me (part time) and the other in the same place but different department and the staff just accept him as he is. He helps with holiday play schemes in a sports capacity and with specially adapted bikes for people with special needs. His previous work with children helped him with this role and his compassionate nature. I've cried many tears over the years, I hope I don't have to cry many more. The one think lacking for him now is a relationship. He longs for that and I hope it happens but personally I can't see that happening which is sad.
