Mobile New York metro

Really excited to find this part of the dibb!

We are going to NYC in May and I was trying to understand the metrocard.
I was planning to get a 7 day ticket but know I can’t use this for AirTran.

I did read somewhere that they are interchangeable and I could put money on it too, I now can’t find where I read that!

Is this right or do I also need a pay as you go metrocard too?

I don’t know but I’m going to New York too in July and am wondering the same thing? What are your plans? 😀

I’m very lacking in plans at the moment. Too busy planning Disney 2019 😂. Need to start deciding what to do in NY though.

Haha how funny my hubby was saying something to me today about Orlando 2019... told him I needed to concentrate on Getting New York sorted out first!
We have ideas but no actual plan! Definately doing SOL we’ve already booked crown tickets, ESB, 9/11 museum (daughter and hubby only it’s not for me &#128546, sunset cruise, central park and a visit to The Plaza (daughter has been obsessed with this place for years! ), grand central station, and see Wicked. Other possibilities are TOTR, The Ride, The Highline and One World Tower?
Don’t want to cram too much in but also want to see so much!

You can put both time (7 or 30 day ticket) and money (prepaid pay as you ride) on the same MetroCard. Once a time-based credit is activated (e.g. First ride on a 7 day purchase), time will override money except with a journey which is not covered by the 7 day ticket, like AirTrain. That will automatically use the money credit ($5 per journey).

Details here

A pay as you ride Metrocard can be used by up to 4 people, but if you add time, you require one card per person.

Thank you, that’s really helpful.
