Martha’s Vineyard
We will be in Cape cod in August and wondered if MV is worth the trip, if so did you take the car or did you use public transport.
Ant tips on places to eat etc.

It’s a long time since we went to MV but we got the ferry over and then picked up a tour - the bus was waiting at the dock. We really enjoyed it.

Going to Martha's Vineyard is one of the main reasons we're planning to visit Cape Cod in the next few years. Our plan is to take the ferry, then stroll around and use the island bus. Looks like a beautiful place with a fascinating history.

As above, we jumped on a tour bus when the ferry docked

Definately worth a day trip, we went last year.
Drive to the Steamship Authority at Woods Hole and if it's summer go to Oaks Bluff. Half price of Hyannis ferry. Some photos. Jaws filmed around here. There's lots of restaurants in Oaks Bluff. You can walk about easily, we walked up to Sheriff Broadys house, and Telegraph Hill. Photo of car park is Steamship Authority car park where you get shuttle to ferry at Oaks Bluff. [APP]

Believe it or not most of the car crossings for popular times in August are probably already booked! They also can be very expensive. Daytrippers rarely take cars and the bus tours probably work out best.
You can also get the Island Queen from Falmouth Heights in the summer. That one is foot passenger only.

We took the foot ferry from Hyannis (but only as we were staying in Hyannis so it didn't make sense to drive to anywhere else).
Once on Martha's Vineyard we went between Oak's Bluff, Vineyard Haven and Edgartown (our personal favourite) using the very regular buses that run between the towns. Couldn't have been easier. No need for a car if you are only intending visiting the towns. |

We hired bikes from Vineyard haven as there’s a dedicated path on the footpath along the beach road as you head towards oaks bluff and Edgartown
