Like others have said, don’t bother with dining plan distripplanner

Everything the same as if you’d booked the hotel with Disney- magic band, fastpass etc.

Shenzy it's very hard to make the numbers work during the free dining offer, it will be close, especially with the increase in some resorts but generally FD wins. It can also be influenced in the £/$ rate, every £ increase is a step in the right direction for your money. Whenever I've tried to crunch the numbers, paying for DDP has never worked in my favour but certainly renting DVC points is a cheaper option on the rack rate.

Thank you so much everyone.
This is the 1st time we've looked at doing this - and it looks so much better.
After much discussion - we are not too bothered about dining plan.
We've done some number crunching.
There are 6 of us going in October next year.

You guys will know if this is something that is feasible / worth thinking about.

We'd originally looked at 2 rooms in AKL (for 15 nights) - price for that, including the DDP was £11,500. (oh me ! )
We checked Dave's DVC and we can rent points for a 2 bed villa (standard view) at AKL for £5937 ($8313, I've used 1.4 exch rate just to get a rough cost). 14 days tickets work out at £2500. So £8437 (approx.), ok no DDP but that gives us approx. £3000 for food - and we're in a lovely 2 bed villa instead of 2 rooms. Does that sound feasible ?

Thank you again everyone for your help.

xx

Sounds good to me! Did you look at getting a Savannah view? I hate staying at AKL without the view. It’s so wonderful starting your day with breakfast on the balcony watching the animals.

It’s a 2 bed villa not a 3 bed but otherwise it’s a good plan.

The standard view is fine for us, I'd prefer to save the money/ points and I ask for near Pumba elevator' at Kidani as it's partial Savannah.
Yes the 2 bed villa certainly sounds feasible. Look at going for Kidani as I think you get another bathroom there in the 2 beds (you get 2 in the 1 beds in Kidani only).
Remember you could always also get an Instacart delivery, when you are around the hotel have a sandwich in the room for lunch and get cerials and coffee in for breakfast.
I much prefer breakfast in room, as it's easier and you can get going to the parks without a worry about stopping to eat.
You'll also get a washer and dryer in the room.
David's will be able to get you the availability fine for Jambo or Kidani usually as it's a big resort.
Also consider a split stay to spice it up, say a week Kidani, a week Boardwalk possibly?
