DVC booking tips for first timers

We bought direct and yes, they did a 'First Welcome Home' booking for us where they were able to take some cash rooms and turn them into points rooms, however the only thing available to reasonably cover the whole 2 weeks was OKW and SSR combo.

I'm no expert on DVC but there are plenty who are. I did think though that if you bought direct they would get you your first booking at your home resort, that's a shame you can't. I suppose all resorts are nice though and it's a good opportunity to try different places

PS - I haven't stayed at all the DVC resorts, but have stayed at SSR and OKW. If I had a choice, I'd go back to,OKW before SSR. Really enjoyed our stay there

We were hoping for Copper Creek for our first stay but he didn't say it was available. In hindsight for that Welcome Home call I should have pushed more for Copper Creek to see if anything could have been done, but OKW or SSR were all he mentioned.

I do like the look of OKW, the only thing I don't like is it has 2 beds and as a couple we'd rather have a sofa area in that space. I don't think there's such a thing as a 'bad' DVC, happy to go along with whatever but would be nice to get our BWV or BLT waitlist fulfilled. Given up on Copper Creek this time!
