Impressed with gatwick special assistance
I contacted gatwick special assistance via email to see if I could get a copy of the autism guide to gatwick rather than having to print off the pdf which is 12 pages. They responded with in a couple on hours and not only are they sending me the guide they are also including the lanyard so that I don't have to queue to get one at the airport and so that ds has a chance to get used to it before we go
Less queuing and more chance to prepare for whats going to happen will hopefully go along way towards making a less stressful day. Thought it was worth a mention as may be helpful for anyone travelling via gatwick - |

Well done to Gatwick! Could I ask which email address you used please? We are looking to get a lanyard for my daughter this time - she really hates going through security (cant have any zips, buttons, sparkly bits etc on her clothing as she panics with the scanner). The lanyard might help.

Hi
Dublin operate a similar system, we used the lanyard last time going through Dublin airport and it was great, we went to security to go through and the guy saw the lanyard and said you can head over and use fast track which was so much easier and also at pre clearance they put us through a special queue, so glad to see airports now using this system.

We used the lanyard system, via Manchester Airport, for our trip in January 2018. The lanyard was recognised at MCO and we were sent straight to the disability queue at immigration. I wore the lanyard as my autistic daughter wouldn’t wear it, she wore the wristband they gave her a few years ago for special assistance, and I wore it on the way back as well and this assisted us with immigration at MCO and Manchester. The only “gripe” I have with it all is that it is a fantastic asset but we fly economy and our luggage always appears to be the last off the blooming plane so what we gain not waiting at immigration we end up waiting an age for the cases. It would be good if the airlines could put the luggage in the First/Upper luggage bin on the plane and our luggage would be one of the first off, this would make the service par excellence.
