Public Transport in London

Off to London to watch my friends daughter run in aid of epilepsy
Please can anyone tell me the cheapest way to travel throughout the day as we will be coming in from Barnes .New years eve we spent a fortune on tube fares - think we made a mistake and there must be a cheaper way to do it .

You can use a contactless debit card to go through the entry and exit gates like an oyster card. There is a maximum per day that will be charged to you but you must remember to swipe your card at the start and end of your journey otherwise your costs may not be capped. You will each need your own card as you can not share. This link explains more.

Barnes is in zones 3, so provided you only go into zones 1-4 then the capped rate is £8 for a day per adult.

You can buy a Zone 1-4 travelcard but that will cost you more at £12.70 for a day per adult.

Contactless card is the cheapest & easiest as others have said & yes, each person needs to use a separate card.

Make sure each person uses their same card throughout the day, e.g., if you swiped in at A with Halifax credit card but out at B with Barclays debit card (because, hey they're both contactless cards, right?), the TFL system can't work out where you finished your journey from A at & can't work out where you started your journey to B from; instead of capping your fare, the system is then likely to default to charging you the maximum single fare on the entire network for each journey done like this which is around £8.
