July 2007 - House of Blues
House of Blues
This was a new one for us! Hunger had forced us to drag ourselves away from a busy morning sunbathing and swimming at Saratoga Springs, so in search of lunch we took a leisurely walk from the resort to West Side. It was blisteringly hot today and we just kind of ambled slowly. I’d say it took about fifteen minutes or so to get from our room to the House of Blues. We didn’t have a reservation but they weren’t busy and we were seated immediately. It didn’t take long to get comfy after our walk in the hot sun, as it was lovely and cool and dark inside. They had the music playing at just the right level for us two oldies Loud enough to hear well, but low enough to talk without shouting. We quickly relaxed in our comfy booth and ordered our drinks. A Cosmopolitan for Paul (were we addicted to these drinks?) and a Margarita for me. To start with we shared an order of Crispy Parmesan Fried Artichoke Hearts, served with a chipotle marinara sauce and a horseradish sour cream for dipping. I wish I’d taken the photo after I tipped them out of the dish. They filled the plate - there were loads of them! Good job we were hungry today! They were delicious, but very rich and we found them very filling. We both decided we liked the horseradish sour cream dip the best. Paul continued with a Brick Oven Roasted Pizza with spinach, feta cheese, roasted garlic, pesto and mozzarella cheese. Unusually for him, he also added a side of fries. I had a half rack of sweet, sticky Baby Back Ribs made with Jim Beam BBQ Sauce, and served with mashed sweet potatoes and sautéed green beans. We shared the Mixed Field Greens Salad - served with blue cheese, toasted pecans and roasted tomato shallot vinaigrette. We ended up with a far bigger lunch than we’d intended and we felt well and truly stuffed! All of the food was really tasty and the service was excellent. The atmosphere was really relaxing too – until a couple of families arrived and chatted amongst themselves over a jug of beer, whilst they allowed their five young children to run around screaming and climb up on every single chair in the vicinity of their table! We were relieved that we’d already finished our meal and we soon left the other poor customers to have their meals enhanced by such well mannered guests. Rude people aside, we did have a very nice lunch and we both agreed that we’ll definitely come back again. Suitably refreshed we wandered over to the cinema to spend the afternoon with Johnny Depp and the rest of the Pirates of the Caribbean at World’s End! |

I like the food at the HOB and it's certainly nice to see what others eat there.
Pity about the parents and brats. Bob

So much food, so little time eh Matt? I feel your pain.
Leanne to find out what I haven't done yet click on my 'Food!' index. I keep getting distracted from doing them Sorry They sure were brats Bob. From beginning to end the parents said nothing to them. How will they ever learn? I wasn't brave enough to try the Jambalaya this time. |

So true Su. At the minute I'll be using Claire's TS credits too as I have narrowed it down to about 30 different restaurants! I'm sure she'll be fine watching me eat!
