They will text or e mail your room number if you've done OLCI but only once the room is available to use. So no advantage over desk check in unless you want to avoid the desk. As from the UK you need to go to the desk to get your magic bands (unless using bands from a previous trip) you'll generally get your room number at check in. If you check in early they may not even have your room number ready at that point and will e mail or text it later in the day. I think official room availability time is 4pm so basically, don't expect to know before that time on check in day.

Mum and Dad were flying down from New York but the flight was cancelled. I spoke to the front desk to ask if there was any chance of a later checkout for them as they were only staying one night but with the delay wouldn't get in until late. They didn't get a late check out but she said the room number had been emailed to them when I said I was concerned about them arriving too late to check in at BLT. We've never had a room number emailed even when we've arrived after check in time so the only difference I could see was Mum & Dad had declined MBs but obviously that wasn't it. It was only emailed that day as far as I know.

When we checked in last summer we were advised the room wasn't yet ready. We were given our magic bands and they emailed us with the room number when the room was ready. We know they had allocated a specific room to us at that point but they certainly wouldn't give us any idea of the room number then.
I know some us guests go straight to park and wait for the text letting them know the room number when it is ready.
