Food shopping budgets
We are a family of 4, 1 teen, I almost a teen, a cat, fish and 2 hamsters! I budget £70 per week, how about you? Just done a shop at Morrisons and was £75 and us forgotten a meal so gutted I'm over budget! That did include cat litter, washing tablets etc but not alcohol.
Usually shop at Aldi and can often shop for us for £65-70, couldn't get there today...

We shop between Tesco and M&s (we get 20% off).
We are 2 adults and 1 child, we'd like to spend about £60 a week but it's often closer to £75 if I include nipping into Aldi for their amazing brioche. We never buy alcohol but often buy flowers. |

Our budget is £80 a week but with 2 teens and 1 preteen (all boys). Some weeks I can get it lower but most weeks it is within £2 of £80. An Aldi just opened across from our Tescos (where I normally shop) and just did my first two stop shop and was still £80 - I did by a bunch of snacks for the plane though

We are a family of four plus the dog.
We until last week for last couple of years shopped at Aldi and then got top up bits from nearby discount shop... crisps and treats and toiletries and then a few bits from Iceland came to about £100, we are limited with time as to when we can shop with kids doing that many activities after school and weekends and the local Aldi we went to closed and next one we went to on the day we have too for three weeks shelves were only half full 😡. So last week we decided to try Asda but said we would have to get everything for the week as no time to go elsewhere really... shopping came to £97 we were happy with that and it had lasted us all week I've only needed to top up on bread and milk from Tesco express nearby but I used to do that before anyway. If we can keep it around that mark we will be happy. |

Omg we need to cut down - there are 5 of us but we spend about £120 with top ups - that used to be more but we've tried to shop better - I really struggle to go lower? What meals do you have?

I shop at Aldi and spend about £80 now. Really cut back recently but I am going back to slimming world so it may go up again ! I used to spend a good £30 a week extra when I was "on plan" this includes everything including household and toiletries and we don't eat takeaway food and rarely eat out but have 2 bottles of wine between the 2 of us at weekend. The only extra is £6 for milk which is delivered.
Every now and then we have a week where we clear the freezer and have a week of very strange meal combos. Meant to say we are 3 adults and a 12 year old who eats very little ! Edited at 03:30 PM. |

Two of my boys are big time swimmers and eat a lot of pasta and rice. I buy frozen chicken(big pieces then cut them down myself) and a lot of frozen veg. They also love omelettes with veg and meat in them. Our biggest cost is cereal and milk - all three boys have 2 big bowls of cereal a day! We don't include pet food in our weekly shopping bill - my husband buys that separately (part of the deal when getting the dog was that he paid for the food!)

When you break it down though that's £24 each for a whole week. I don't think that is excessive really. Some people would spend that on one takeaway ! I like Aldi as not only are the prices lower there isn't as much choice to get tempted with ! I am not a particularly adventurous cook. It's the old favourites of spag Bol, roasts, cottage pie and chicken (my family say they will cluck soon we eat so much chicken !)

Lidl convert here. Two adults, twin 16 year olds & 1 lab.
Spend £70 to £80 ish per week at Lidl but also another £20 to £30 at Home Bargins for cleaning products, some toiletries etc. Used to spend £130 to £150 a week at Morrisons so extra savings goes in the Florida fund 😊 |
