Sorry not really answering your question, but another one.

If you've booked or about to book a holiday to USA you should get Esta as soon as possible, providing your passport is not about to expire before you go.

If your passport is going to expire renew it and then get Esta as soon as possible.

Good. Don't forget to select the official Esta site. There is a link at the top of this page. There are some dodgy ones where they charge you more than the $14.

Can I ask why they need to be done now? Thinking of booking but don't have current passports thought we'd do it all much nearer the time? Sorry to hijack the thread, thanks in advance!

Because if you pay out any non refundable money, insurance doesn't cover you if you can't go because of passport/visa/esta problems.

Ok thank you.

Please forgive my ignorance- if we booked a package, just paid the deposit, sorted the passports and estas then paid the final balance after... if something went wrong due to passport or esta we'd only lose the deposit?

Thank you.

Depending on the terms with the travel agent I would say so.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ESTA, the main issue is if you have convictions.
Although I've never had issues with it so I may sound a bit blazzay about it.

We go next august, but haven't done our ETSA yet. Our existing ones expire in November, and my passport expires next May, we're off to Lanzarote this summer so I will renew my passport once I get back & apply for them once I have it. Last time we went in August and I applied for them in the November before.
