Six Nights At The Waldorf Astoria, New York - Day 5.

Today was our day trip to Washington DC!

As we were getting over the jet lag we woke later than usual and rushed to get ready to make sure we got to Penn Station on time for our 09:35 departure.

We arrived at 08:30 after getting a taxi from outside our hotel, this cost $9.20 before tip.

We found a Starbucks inside the station and Mum and Alfie had hot chocolate and croissants and I had lemon pound cake.

We waited in the Amtrack area for our train which was around 20 minutes late.

We boarded and set off just before 10am.

The seats were large and comfortable, so much nicer than our trains in the UK. The picture above shows how much leg room I've got, it really felt very spacious.

By around 11:30 we were getting a little hungry so Mum and Alfie went to the cafe coach in the centre of the train and brought back pizzas and cans of soda - $22 for three pizzas and three cans.

We arrived in Washington at around 1:30pm and had a quick look around the beautiful station.

We took a taxi (they're red here) to the White House which cost $10. Unfortunately President Obama wasn't there, he and his family were apparently holidaying in Hawaii.

We also took a few pictures of the Eisenhower building before walking to to the WW2 memorial and reflection pool.

We then walked to the Capitol building before walking back to the station to catch our train back to NYC.

Back at the station we grabbed some food, Mum had Starbucks, Alfie Subway and I had a McDonalds. Whilst I was paying for my meal there was an elderly lady stood at the side of me asking for someone to buy her food, so looked dreadfully ill so I bought her a meal too.

We boarded the train and I slept most of the way home arriving in NYC around 9pm. We took a taxi to the hotel and tried to get a Starbucks from the store around the corner from the Waldorf but it had closed at 8pm.

We got some lovely pictures of the outside of our hotel and were in bed by 10pm, a late night for us!

It was great, we really enjoyed ourselves. Some of the decorations we saw in NY were amazing
