Six Nights At The Waldorf Astoria, New York - Day 6.

Today was our visit to the Statue of Liberty.

We left the Waldorf at around 9am and had breakfast at the Starbucks around the corner. Alfie had chocolate croissant and a hot chocolate, Mum and I had breakfast sandwiches, Mum had hers with tea and I had a cotton candy frap 😝 It took a while to get seats in here due to lots of people sat working on laptops without drinks or food 😡

We took the subway to Brooklyn Bridge

We changed here and got off at Bowling Green

We walked a short way before reaching the ticket offices where our NY passes were scanned and we were given real tickets.

We went through scanners having to remove coats, watches and scarves before boarding the boat to over to Liberty Island. The boat was called Miss Ellis Island, we were packed on like sardines and it felt a little scary 😱

We had a look around the gift shop after getting of the boat and bought two Christmas baubles, a couple of pencils, foam headband, Coke bottles and biscuits.

We had a look around the statue but all of us said we'd seen more impressive landmarks 😳 for one Big Buddha on Lantau Island which is wayyyyyy more impressive in our opinion!

A family asked for us to take a picture of them so we did and they returned the favour, although they chopped off the top of Lady Liberty's torch grrrrrrr 😡

We waited for the boat to take us over to Ellis Island, got off and had a quick look around but didn't stay long as Alfie was complaining he was hungry and didn't like any of the options in the cafe there 🙄

We took the boat back to mainland and headed to the One World building and 9/11 memorial.

It somehow didn't feel right taking pictures of the memorial so I just did one and left it at that.

We headed to the subway and caught the blue line to Columba's Circle and walked to Steak and Shake where we all had burgers and shakes costing $35.

After this we walked to the Disney Store in Times Square so I could get the medium sized Minnie Mouse dressed as Lady Liberty Tsum Tsum (because obviously we don't already have enough!). Alfie also got a Bing Bong plush which smells of cotton candy.

We attempted to find the Rockefeller Centre but couldn't and the crowds were just too much for us so we made or way back to the hotel.

I got together all of our purchases making sure they'd all fit in the case before going to bed.

Just caught up on this, looks like you had a fabulous trip, Washington looked fab. I wouldn't have thought to do the two together . Did you find it easy to plan the trip ? It's something I would like to do but don't feel brave enough .

It was a fab trip, thank you. It was my Mum that suggested we went to Washington as it was somewhere she wanted to see but wasn't somewhere we'd go "on holiday" to. It was really easy to plan - I booked the tickets a few weeks before via the Amtrack website, from memory it was around $300 return for the three of us. I had one of the pocket fold out maps, think they're around £4 from Amazon so we'd decided what we wanted to see before we got there. We're really glad we got the opportunity to go, I'd definitely recommend it
