Miami airport immigration

There are so many negative threads about MIA and we were dreading Miami yesterday as I have had many bad experiences in the past.

However, despite many international flights arriving at the same time we literally walked to the booths, got our entry scan thing and walked straight up to a border official with no queue as there were many booths open and got straight through. I have never seen anything like it!

Our cases were already waiting for us, got our car hire and were on our way within 30 mins ... amazing!

Rush hour in Miami tho... not so amazing!

We had a positive experience with Miami immigration last August, out of immigration and got bags within 45 mins!

When you get to the immigration hall ignore the hundreds of people who will join the massive queues and go to the left.


You will see loads of automated immigration machines in a kind of open room. Keep all of your party together and just follow the instructions on the screen.
Once you have your receipts go to the left again and wait to see the officer who will just check your printed sheets.

They did not even want the immigration form that we filled out on the plane, although I would still fill it out just in case.

We were at the baggage collection within 15 minutes.

Another positive experience for us at Miami. Queues looked to be horrendous, but we queued for about 15/20 minutes for immigration machines and then pretty much waved through by the officer. However, none of us had an X on our slips. I think the queues would have been longer to see the officer if we had of done as there was a big queue for "X"s. Personally, I really think that immigration is pot luck at every airport on any given day. But for us, having heard Miami to be particularly bad, we were pleasantly surprised.

Positive for us as well in August, even getting the big black cross out of the machine because I declared food we were still out and on our way to the car rental centre within 30 mins.

Even if you get the dreaded X at the machine it's still quite fast.

Its good to hear all these positive experiences, thanks. My friend is refusing to grab a bargain and fly into Miami as she has heard it is worse than MCO. First time flying into Miami next August and these comments take another worry away. Thanks.

Another positive 30 mins from plane to waiting for our hotel shuttle, quick immigration was amazing and such a different experience to MCO.
