BA - Twilight check in / Bag drop off

This may be a silly question so apologies in advance. We're flying with BA in September and I wondered if you want to drop your bags off the night before can you check in online and then just go to the airport and drop off your bags or do you have to check in at the airport? The BA website makes me think the latter.
I understand everyone traveling has to be present when dropping the bags off but wasn't sure if you could check in online first.
My plan was to check in online when it opens around 11am and then drop our bags straight off at the airport around 5pm before we go to our hotel.

I think we checked in online then dropped the bags at the airport last year. What time does twilight check in open with BA at Gatwick as I can't remember?!

We just checked in at the airport- there was no queue at all when we went.

If the airport allow twilight then yes you can check in online then drop off cases but as part of this they will reissue paper boarding passes rather than your online ones due to how twilight check in works. Or at least how it worked for us at Edinburgh last year.

Yes you can and we always do. We always check-in at 24 hours for seats and then drop off the bags in the evening before check in at hotel.

Hi, we're flying Edin to Gatwick to Tampa in June. Did you check in and drop your bags off for both flights, i.e. don't see the bags again until in Florida? Thanks
