Just seen tonight that going through passport control at MCO will now include facial recognition booth's.

You can read the actual 2 press releases here:
orlandoairports/site/upl...c_20180621.pdf
orlandoairports/site/upl...y_20180621.pdf
and background to it here:
cbp.gov/frontline/cbp-biometric-testing
It just involves taking a photo and matching it to other photos of that person already in their database. They have been conducting tests at 13 other airports already. Apparently some airlines have been testing this same technology as a possible replacement for boarding cards too.

The press release is merely an announcement that MCO has made a commitment to introduce the system - it doesn't give a date for when it will actually come into effect. Whilst it is new for departing passengers, they already take your photo (and fingerprints) on arrival on international flights.

Most European airports have been doing it for several years for EU citizens. You place your passport into the machine and it is scanned - then stand in front of the camera which uses facial recognition to match the ‘real’ person with the passport. It’s much quicker and easier.

I’m glad they are introducing this, might reduce those long queues.

This is actually old news - whilst there was a press release yesterday from CBP, MCO themselves announced it back in April here:
orlandoairports/press/20...tional-travel/
They have already had a trial at MCO involving BA. The new camera for exit passengers is at the Gate to permit boarding, not at passport control in the terminal. The arrival procedure doesn't change as they were taking photos anyway - they are just matching them up to their database (which I expected them to be doing anyway!).

I'm the same - I haven't flown for over 20 years and its all new to me. Some people on here seem to assume everyone is a frequent flyer/ airport regular though. I sometimes feel stupid because I'm not.
