Disney's New Skyliner to Begin Transporting Guests in Fall 2019

inline imageBob Chapek, Chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Consumer Products, announced that Disney Skyliner will be ready to begin transporting guests at the Walt Disney World Resort beginning fall of 2019.

The new state of the art gondola system will conveniently connect Disney's Hollywood Studios and Epcot to four resort hotels, Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Pop Century Resort and Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort as well as the proposed 15th Disney Vacation Club property, Disney's Riviera Resort.

Disney Skyliner will offer a whole new way to experience Walt Disney World with amazing views only available from the sky.

There will be some great photo opportunities! For example, guests arriving at the International Gateway station will travel through the trees and be welcomed into Epcot with remarkable, never before seen views across World Showcase.

The innovative transportation system is quickly coming to life! Workers just installed the last support tower at the Resort and are beginning to thread the series of reinforced cables to carry guests in stylish themed gondolas.

As late as Fall 2019?

They have already threaded some of the cables and started testing them. I'm surprised it's going to take almost another year before they open it.

From the attached thumbnail picture it looks like the Skyliner is using enclosed gondolas from either Poma or Doppelmayr. Given the Florida climate, the drive "ropeway" that the cars move along will only be a small part of the installation. These gondolas are going to need some pretty hefty air-conditioning to keep riders comfortably cool in the height of the Florida summer weather.

Air conditioning needs power - a fair bit of it too, so I suspect there is quite a bit more cabling other then the drive "ropeway" to be put in, before thorough testing, doubtless in the summer heat next year before unleashing the new transport system on guests.

Sounds great! Will it only benefit guests form those hotels or will it go between the parks too?
