Mobile Iceland road trip day 10 - Rain stopped play.

We woke up after a very noisy, windy and wet night. The rain lashed all night long and was set to continue through the day. We had breakfast, packed up and cleaned the cabin and set off on our journey to Hofn, unsure what we might be able to see and do along the way in bad weather.
We drove around the Eastern Fjordland which I expect is quite scenic generally, but we had low cloud and rain and it wasn’t very inspiring.
We made a stop in a Merry Bay, where our map showed someone straddling a giant stone egg. There are about 30 of these eggs each representing a native Icelandic bird and carved out of different colours of Chinese granite...

We had lunch in the car and marvelled at how many people ventured down to stare at the eggs - even a coach turned up at one point!
We continued our journey and stopped at a sea stack on a black sand beach.

It was wild and windy but at least it wasn’t raining!

From here we continued on and rolled into Höfn around 3.30 and checked into the hotel.
The wind was really fierce by now and it was a struggle getting the bags out of the car and into the room!
We chilled for a while and then headed out for an early tea at a diner that we had scoped out earlier.

I had lobster roll and fries and Si had fish and chips. The place was tiny and also had a drive up take out window, the food was good and cheap by Icelandic standards.
We came back to the room and watched telly, listening to the wind howl (up to 40mph gusts!)
