my late MIL once gave me a boxed set of body lotion, bath cubes and it should have contained a small bottle of perfume but she had taken that out as she said she "didn't want to spent that much on me" and gave the perfume to her neighbour, she also ignored my son as she said he wasn't really her grandson!

These posts have really cheered me up. So funny what some people will bother to wrap up.
My father in law and his partner have never really shown interest in his family, just her family. For years we would receive presents that were beyond words, obviously from a discount store or second hand shop. I doubt my father in law knew what they were as his partner sorted them out. It became a standing joke and my husband and his brothers would ring one another and ask what each other had received then laugh. My husband got a t shirt that was folded in a clear plastic package, size small (muscle bound rugby player, still played at this stage) when he opened it the square that was on display had faded two shades lighter than the rest. We used it for cleaning the front door. I received a size 22 dressing gown that had cigarette burns on it, i was a size 8 at the time! When my daughter was 3 she received a chipped ornament of a fireplace... it was so random! My last gift was a broken necklace that was rusty and had no fastener on it. Luckily they stopped buying gifts for us us many years ago. My youngest has never received anything from his grandad and he has only seen him a hand full of times. |

I’m saddened so many people don’t seem to get on with their family members. My sister once bought me an afternoon tea set in a lovely box biscuits, tea bags etc. I don’t drink tea. Think that was a genuine mistake as she knows me very well, I didn’t say anything to her, wouldn’t hurt her for the world. My birthday is coming up next week and one year my widowed father forgot, I couldn’t imagine how you can forget your child’s birthday especially so near Christmas, again I didn’t say anything but was extremely hurt. DH told him in the new year and he was mortified. Would give anything to have him here with us now and would not bother if he forgot again! I’m fortunate with my in laws they always give us cash unless they ask us specifically what we want, which most years is absolutely nothing. Some of the stories on here are terrible, who would dare give something so obviously used/cheap/tacky better a cheap box of chocs than oversized clothes or used items.

I love my MIL, but shes so bad at buying Christmas presents. She surpassed herself last year- I got an opened bottle of perfume, a set of broken childrens bagpipes and a cross stitch picture of Garfield!. Daughter got some cat ornaments, 1direction perfume (still had zayn on the packaging and daughter never liked 1d), and a white musk powder puff from body shop with the original bodyshop logo. Hubby got a bottle of wine. Thankfully this year she just gave us money.

Not for Christmas but the first birthday I celebrated in our first bought house my DH bought me an extension cable for the lawn edge trimmer 😮
Must have been a blip because ever since he is really good at buying presents. Or it might be because also ever since I always provide him with a wish list which he never strays from 😂

My dad once gave me a 3 pack of tights from Littlewoods (so it was a long time ago). They didn't even fit because I'm short he bought small and I couldn't get them over my hips.
