Anyone a fan of the books and have been discussing who would play who in the movie well 3/4 of the cast list has dropped:

Helen Mirren - Elizabeth
Ben Kingsley - Ibrahim
Pierce Brosnan - Ron

No news on Joyce yet.

Only one I'm not sure of is Pierce Brosnan but he could surprise us. Who do you think will play Joyce?

Not sure about Pierce Brosnan as Ron, I imagined Ron as tougher. More like Ray Winstone.

I could see Celia Imrie as Joyce. I thought Fiona Shaw would be a good Elizabeth. Random but I think Angela Griffin when I imagine Donna.

Lesley Manville for Joyce. Not sure bout Pierce Brosnan. I visualise Ron as someone bigger & tougher looking. Bit like a Rugby 2nd row forward. Lol

I feel Judi Dench would have made a good Elizabeth, and possibly Olivia Coleman as Joyce. I agree Ray Winstone would make a good Ron and maybe Sir Ian McKellan or Patrick Stewart as Ibrahim. Angela Griffin or Suranne Jones would make a good Donna I think

I always pictured Elizabeth as Harriet Walter, and Brenda Blethyn as Joyce. She’s free now that Vera has finished so you never know! Not sure about Pierce Brosnan as Ron, but Ben Kingsley works as Ibrahim.
Good shout for Angela Griffin as Donna.

Ben Kingsley definitely works for Ibrahim; the only other person I saw in that role was Art Malik.

Pierce Brosnan as Ron? No, no, no - far too smooth. Ron is definitely a Ray Winstone character.

And, to repeat what somebody else said, I only ever see and hear Penelope Wilton as Joyce in my own head.
