BA to Singapore - First time trip!

I’m taking my lovely wife to Singapore for her 40th birthday in October with British Airways.

Very excited to be on the A380, booked upstairs, only in economy but exciting to us nonetheless 😍

Has anyone recently flown this route? What can we expect on the menu?

Also, doing Sentosa Island and Universal Studios in Singapore which we can’t wait for, any tips appreciated!

That’s a shame! I really hope they don’t change the aircraft, I’ve been geeking out over it.

Love Singapore and Sentosa. If you have enough time make sure to explore around sentosa too, the man made beaches 5 mins from universal are beautiful. Also there is a free observatory in the central business district called sky garden. You just have to reserve a timeslot online first as free slots are quite limited. Well worth it.

I was sat on the runway viewing area at The thistle in T5 Thursday night and we were watching a baby bus (319) taxiing along the line of 380s and 350s on their stands, it honestly looked ilke a toy

Love those big birds, they're so impressive. Enjoy

Happy to answer any questions about Singapore you might have (I'm from Singapore/live here)!

I'm relatively familiar with flying between Singapore and Heathrow as have flown this route a number of times. Mostly with Singapore airlines but I have had a handful of trips with BA - the last time I flew BA was before COVID though so my experience is definitely outdated now!

The A380s are always fun to fly on - though there will be a lot more people at the gate area and there will be a lot more luggage on the plane than with smaller planes (as to be expected). That being said both Heathrow and Singapore Changi have gate areas that were built to accommodate the A380 (3 aerobridges) so it was still not too bad even with the higher passenger loads!

Not sure I can help with Universal any more as it's been a while since I've been and from what I can see there are quite a few changes that have happened (they closed the madagascar area and are buildling minions land at the moment).

Sentosa has a lot of activities, I remember liking Adventure Cove but again it's been a while since I've been there! I used to just take the MRT to Harbourfront station and walk along the boardwalk to Sentosa (fairly nice walk with travellators, plus free entry to Sentosa this way), and the Resorts World stuff (including Universal Studios) is very close to the footpath entrance to Sentosa. Otherwise the monorail's a pretty easy way to get into Sentosa too!

Ah how lovely! It’s going to be hot and humid with afternoon showers, very much like Florida. Try going out early mornings and in the evenings with rest/nap in the afternoon.

Have you sort out your accommodation ywt? Book early. Prices can be eye watering. Try stay in central downtown area near the MRT tube stations. The tube is very easy to navigate and relatively cheap. You can just tap your contactless credit card - in and out; no need to buy or top up train tickets.

Don’t miss trying the local food and i can highly recommend Lau Pa Sat which is quite central. Look out for grilled meats called ‘satay’ - try the mutton or lamb satay.

While Sentosa can be fun, it is very much a man-made island. If you want to experience some local flavour, look into walking tours in areas such as Chinatown, Little India and Kampung Glam.

We've flown the A380 upper deck with Malaysian back in 2016.

Unfortunatley only economy though

We were seated at the rear downstairs and upstairs wasnt even open... a couple in front asked if they could go upstairs - they reluctantly said yes - so we asked too - and got the same answer!

In the end there were only about 30 of us - we all had a row each - and pretty much our own dedicated steward!

No upper class food though

Coming back the whole plane was full - no chance of spare seat

Not long now until our trip.
Could I ask which is the best weather app to use for the local weather? Thanks ☺️
