Rome. Day 3 - Rome In Ruins


We walked down the hill from the hotel to the colosseum this morning expecting long queues for tickets. But we only had to queue for 10 minutes.

They also do a good deal for EU visitors. 18 - 25 get a discount so the entry is 7.50 euros and under 18's go free. So 31.50 for the 4 of us to get in.



There is no actual records of Christians being killed here but it seems likely as they were elsewhere.



Luckily there is a lot of shade about as it is 29C today. Hot hot hot.



From the second level you can get a good view of the Roman Forum and arch of Constantine.



They have put a wooden floor in place to show what the original amphitheatre would have looked like.

Apparently the outside will be cleaned soon as a private individual has funded this.



After a break back at the hotel we went back down to the Roman Forum.



A wide area of what was one marsh land that the Romans drained and built on.



It ia amazing how modernist buildings were built right into the ruins of Ancient Rome.

After a continuous walk around the vast Roman Forum we headed back to the metro and on to the same restaurant we visited yesterday.



What better end to the day than a litre of beer to quench the thirst.

Up at 5am tomorrow to meet up for the Pompeii and Vesuvius tour.

11 euros for that beer. But very much needed by then. Plus they add on 20% tip and a few euros for a cover charge.

Certainly the most expensive city in Europe.
