Naples Vacationtastic Day 1- Travel Hell, Should Have Been Heaven.

We arrived at the Radisson LHR on Saturday and started with a bottle of well earned prosecco.

My dinner- sorry forgot to photo the starter. It was Ham hock with salad and toast (very nice which was why it didn't survive a photo call). Main shown- beef fillet with fondant potatoes and glazed carrots in a pan jus. Good, but beef was a bit stringy/briskety. Other options were chicken with new potato in tarragon cream sauce or chicken Caesar salad.

Dessert was good. Chocolate fondant with salted caramel and cream.
Didn't last long either!

Afternoon tea- fab. Sandwiches- salmon, ham & mustard and cheese & pickle. Then scone with clotted cream and jam (or jam and cream- whichever you prefer). Tartlets of lemon meringue, cherry frangipane and chocolate velvet.
Cup of tea was ace- I got them to make me a big mug full in one of the crew mugs afterwards!
The flight was good, but Miami airport is not an experience I want again in a hurry. A 2 mile walk to immigration, (which only took 20 mins surprisingly) then 45 mins waiting for bags. Then another hike to get a monorail to wait in a 2 hour queue to get our hire car. Never again Alamo. Awful. I was grumpy grumpy grumpy. Only 4 desks open and people working at the speed of an asthmatic slug carrying heavy shopping. Emilia was hungry and tired as it was now 6.30 pm local time so about 4hrs late in bed. Eventually we got a car (but of a struggle to get everyone and bags in) and I drove us along alligator alley to our lovely villa in Naples. That has to be the most boring stretch of road I have ever driven. Worse than the M20 between Maidstone and ashford and even worse than the road out to KSC.
But we are here safe, and it's 5.40am, but i am wide awake!

What a shame that Miami turned into such a nightmare, well at least you're at the villa and the fun can begin.

Glad you're there and settled. All sounds great, esp Upper Class! Miami airport is very hit and miss it seems ... you obviously hit it at a bad time Looking forward to more - love the Gulf coast.

Oohhh... can relate to the M20 boredom, coming from Herne Bay!
