Quebec 2016 - On y va LIVE - Day 22 - A Pompei Impact

A bit of a noisy night thanks to DH's snoring!

Once we were up and showered we got the metro into the centre of Montreal for breakfast - destination Eggspectation.

DS had waffles with fruit - he wolfed it down!

DH and I had eggs, fruit and toast. DD had an egg, breakfast potatoes and toast. She also had my bananas as I can't stand them.

It was all delicious.

We had chosen this restaurant as it was near the Musee de Beaux Arts. They had anexhibition on Pompeii.

Both kids enjoyed this - DH saw things he had studied in Latin and DD had done Roman history last year.

DS said it was really interesting - high praise from a teenager who hated latin!

We saw other exhibitions including one on Toulouse-Lautrec who was born near to where we live. DS was also impressed to find a painting by the painter who he had to do his oral History of Art exam on!

I saw yet another skidoo and thought of the DIBB!

I loved the Chiluly tree outside the museum. I love his work!

We needed lunch.

We looked on google maps and found a bagel store nearby. This was a brilliant find.

DD had french toast bagel with fruit. She loved it.

DH had the New Yorker - cheese and ham. He is the only meat eater in the house. There wad an awful lot of meat!

DS and I both had the veggie burger bagel - it was amazing.

After we did some more shopping. Only purchases were at American Eagle for DH (two shirts) and for DS (a cap and a lurid pair of gold pants!

We caught the metro back- we are right next to the Olympic Stadium from 1976.

After a rest we walked the 5 minutes to the Saputa Stadium for the football match Montreal Impact v Chicago Fire. We loved that the fans were having boot bbqs before the match.

It was a sold out match (I had got tickets about a month ago when we realised how close the hotel was to the stadium.)

Their star player is Didier Drogba - of Chelsea fame. He had been ill with a gastro apparently.

It was not the best quality footy and Chicago won 3-0. But we had fun- even had relatively healthy food (couscous salad, smoothies and sandwiches) - oh and beer and popcorn

We were back 5 minutes after the final whistle.

Tomorrow is our last full day

Think we need to see the lurid gold pants?! (Or maybe not! )

More yummy food! Those bagels look really good...

You have done some very cultural stuff, its weird though to think you are in canada, at an italian exhibition! We have been to herculanneum, not pompeii, it was fascinating, well worth a visit.

Football looks fun too. Shame its nearly your last day but wow what a trip!

What a good day. We went to see Toronto FC a few years ago and it definitely wasn't football like we know it!

Gold pants - Olympic fever?

You must have planned really well, because you found such great things to do and it all seems to have flowed so easily.

DS loves his pants! We know our kids' limits - they are happy to do some cultural stuff but would be grumpy if that is all we did! I was happy that both kids enjoyed the Pompeii exhibition! I think seeing things that they had studied rally helped! O was constantly taking photos and instanagramming them!

The bagels were amazing

It is years since I have been to a footy match (used to go with my dad a lot). The atmosphere was great though!

Thanks - I actually do a lot of planning on the hop - the football was the only thing booked pre-trip. I did however spend hours on the accomodation

So...I'm on the hunt for Montreal sights/restaurants for the chaps to visit while DM and I are at the Gymnastics Championships in October!

And I got my hopes up for the Pompeii exhibition (you know that Poot wants to be a volcanologist) - but it appears that while we are in Montreal, the MBAM temporary exhibition will be about Jean-Paul Gaultier.

I LOVE Montreal bagels - do you () happen to remember the name of the bagel place near the Museum? Please stop laughing - I know it was ages ago!
