If you find the idea of staying in a resort that is within walking distance of the Magic Kingdom appealing, then the Contemporary Resort is for you! This 14 storey A-frame Hotel also has three Garden wings and was one of the two original WDW resorts, it offers 1008 smoke-free guest rooms. An interesting fact about the Contemporary is that the rooms were prefabricated and were built off-site and hoisted into place once the hotel was built. The Grand Canyon Concourse is the name for the area of the interior of the 14 story concourse. Here you will find the monorail station, shops, restaurants and a 90 foot high Mary Blair mural with a Southwestern theme.

The futuristic atmosphere of the Contemporary Resort is obvious when you see the Monorail glide through the A-frame structure. Monorail access is only one of the many transportation options for the guests here. Bus transportation is available to take guests to parks other than the Magic Kingdom, as well as to Downtown Disney Marketplace, and watercrafts carry guests to the Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness, River Country and Discovery Island.

The spectacular views are yet another advantage of staying at the Contemporary. Most guest rooms enjoy beautiful views of the Seven Seas Lagoon or Bay Lake. One of the best places to watch the Magic Kingdom fireworks is from the California Grill Lounge on the 15th floor, The Electrical Water Pageant that glides across Bay Lake nightly can also be viewed from the beach area of the Resort. In 1991, a meeting and convention center was added to the Contemporary Resort, it features 90,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 42,300 square foot ballroom.

California Grill

Dine at one of Disney's Best Award-Winning Signature Restaurants, which following extensive renovation has recently re-opened, with fabulous reviews.The Restaurant is a perfect meld of modern contemporary, with a touch of classic elegance to it. The Dining Room offers 360 degree panoramic views, overlooking the Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom, the Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake. Be prepared as music is piped in as the lights dim in the evening, allowing you to see the most spectacularly enviable views of the 'Wishes Firework Display'. The centre stage of the Dining Room focuses on the Show Kitchen, where you can watch Dishes being freshly prepared by the Chef's and their Teams. The 'New Menu' created by Chef Brain Piasecki, is changed seasonally to provide dishes that are made with only the freshest of ingredients.

The Wave

The Wave is located just off the lobby area of Disney's Contemporary Resort. The restaurant consistently provides great food for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. Enjoy the contemporary elegance of this new restaurant, even though the restaurant is large, the gold colours of the walls give a cosy warm feel to it. There is plenty of space between the tables which allows a level of intimacy, they also have booths which are suitable for larger groups of up to 6 people.

The restaurant focuses on serving American Flavors sourced from fresh ingredients that are organic, locally grown and sustainable. The menu changes frequently depending on the produce that is available seasonally. Even though this is not a 'Signature' Restaurant it certainly feels like it is, the food is superb and is presented beautifully.

Chef Mickey's Buffet

Chef Mickey's Buffet is located on the 4th floor concourse of Disney's Contemporary Resort, the restaurant is open for a character dining experience and offers magnificent views of the Bay Lake. Breakfast is served from 7am to11.30am and Dinner is from 5pm until 9.30pm. Occasionally during busy spells it is also open for lunch.

This is one of the most popular location's for 'Character Dining' and gives the opportunity for guests to enjoy an action packed, high energy breakfast and dinner service along with their favourite 'Fab Five' Disney Characters. Sing along, dance and wave your napkins with Chef's Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy! Be uber-cool and arrive in style on the monorail that actually enters the hotel.

Family Culinary Adventure

From 8th July 2015 guests can experience a 3 1/2hr backstage interactive evening, that includes time with a Disney Chef, being hands-on with the preparation of a five-course dinner, which you will later consume. The experience is available for those age 9 and over.

A group of 30 guests are divided into five groups who are then allocated to a selected station, which could be Garde manger, Sushi, Boucherie, Pasta or Patisserie. Wine and Beer are included for adults at the Dinner Service. At the end of the Experience guests will take away with them a Chef's Hat and a Disney Cookbook signed by the Chef's. The cost for adults is $175 plus tax and $125 plus tax for those age 9-12.

Disney Countdown to Midnight - New for 2016

Held in the resort's convention center, the event begins at 8pm on December 31 2016. In the Fantasia Ballroom, adult beverages will be served alongside a DJ playing music from the 60's to today.

Next comes a dinner featuring the “best-of-the-best” bites and wine pairings from such restaurants as California Grill, Flying Fish Cafe, Cítricos and Narcoossee's.

Entertainment will include Alter Ego, performing a music-and dance-filled revue, and outside a unique musical act playing songs of today with a retro twist.

Views of the Magic Kingdom's New Year's Eve Fantasy in the Sky fireworks will be available from the outdoor patio.

Disney Countdown to Midnight is an all-inclusive, all-ages event available for $225 per Guest (tax and gratuity included), and takes place from 8pm on December 31, 2016 to 1am on January 1, 2017.

Recreation
There's plenty of activities that you can take part in at this Resort, having it's own Marina guests can enjoy many of the Watersport's offered. There are two swimming pools, a child's pool and a Spa Tub to relax in. For those who enjoy being active, you can play a game of Tennis or Volleyball. There are also Jogging paths and a Fitness Center to work out in, or you could rent a bike to get around the resort. Kids can entertain themselves either in the Playground or in the Games Arcade.

Nearby there is also the facilities of a 9-hole Golf Course, Fantasia Gardens Mini Golf Course and Horse Riding that can be arranged through Guest Services.
