Wild Africa Trek

The Wild Africa Trek tour at Disney's Animal Kingdom takes small groups on a guided hike with animal experts into some of the undeveloped areas of the “Harambe Reserve” of the Kilimanjaro Safari.

You will experience up close views of Africa's wildest animals, clip into a harness allowing you to step to a cliff's edge and see the hippos and crocs below! You will then board a special vehicle to explore the rest of the Savannah. The tour will conclude with a "Taste of Africa" experience where guests can continue to view animals from a special private safari camp above the savanna.

As part of the adventure, guests will clip onto a lifeline as they step to the very edge of a cliff to get amazingly close to the hippos and crocs waiting just below. Talk about cliff-hangers!
  • Highlights of what’s in store for guests on this add-on adventure:
  • Trekking with experienced guides through areas of Harambe Wildlife Reserve that aren’t explored during regular Disney’s Animal Kingdom experiences.
  • Navigating winding pathways through dense fern, bamboo and vine forests on a bushwalk that sets a course for adventure.
  • Clipping into a harness attached to a safety line, crossing a seemingly precarious rope bridge over the Safi River and cliff-hanging at the edge of gullies that are home to hippos and crocodiles.
  • After pausing at an overlook above the grasslands for breathtaking views, boarding customized open-air vehicles that course through the vastness of a magnificent savanna. Extended time is allotted for animal viewing with expert guides.
  • Unwinding from an unforgettable adventure at a private safari camp for viewing of wildebeest and giraffe, elephants and gazelles, eland and antelope. At this station elevated above the savanna, guests savor this panorama of wildlife and sample tastes of Africa as their adventure draws to a relaxing and satisfying close.
Wild Africa Trek will be offered several times daily at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

Groups will be kept small, consisting of no more than 12 trekkers per safari.

What’s included?
  • complimentary metal water bottle to take in your harness and on your trek and take home with you.
  • a 3-hour walking, hiking, and vehicle tour of previously forbidden areas of Animal Kingdom’s Africa.
  • breakfast or lunch for 30 minutes at the savanna platform.
  • binoculars for use during the safari truck portion of the trek.
  • complimentary PhotoPass CD of the photos taken by your guide that day as well as some stock animal photos for keepsakes.
  • amazing, once-in-a-lifetime views and experiences and memories to bring home with you!

Requirements: There are a few pre-requisites for this adventure.
  • Weight Limit: 45 - 300lbs due to the safety harnesses used. They do weigh you at the outpost station before you get your harness vest on.
  • Carry-on Items: you are permitted to carry a camera or video camera but only if it can attach to the harness via clips provided. Lockers are provided at no cost to store any other items you have brought with you.
  • Age limit: you must be 8 years of age and at least 48 inches tall and 45lbs to join the trek.
  • Clothing: Closed-toed (preferably sneakers or walking/hiking type) shoes are a must. Long pants and long-sleeves are recommended, although in the summer this might not be much fun, you do traipse through bushes, tree limbs and other foliage that might scrape or scratch you with bare skin exposed.

Restrooms:
There is the opportunity to use restroom facilities before the Trek starts then there isn't another opportunity for 2 hours. Once you reach the Savanna platform you can wash up before enjoying a meal.

Weather conditions:
The Wild Africa Trek takes place rain or shine – ponchos will be provided if it is raining and the safari truck will be covered as is the savanna platform. The trek will be canceled with signs of lightening or other severe weather.

Special Dietary Needs:
When you call to book your tour, just let the reservation agent know what your needs are – vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, nut allergy, etc. Chefs will accommodate your needs. Kids meals are provided but still on the adventurous side, so if you know your child is a picky eater, be sure to bring this up at time of booking as well.

Call 407-WDW-TOUR (939-8687) to make reservations.

Park admission is required for tour participants.
