The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Undoubtably one of the Park's best thrill rides. The once opulent and glamourous Hollywood Tower Hotel is now abandoned following a terrifying lightning strike on 31 October 1939.
From the lobby you are invited by the bellman into the hotel's library where Rod Sterling introduces the plot eerily speaking on a black and white television.
From the library you are escorted by the ghostly bellman into the old boiler room as you wait for the ride, which is housed in one of the hotel's service lifts and takes you to see the haunted hostelry. The bellman issues you with a number and you then proceed to stand on that number in front of the lift doors before being called to board the elevator. You are secured in your seat by a lap belt and there are handles which can be held at the side of your seat.
The elevator begins to climb and the doors open onto a corridor scene with a mirror, where you see a reflection of yourself, then after a spark of electricity disappears to leave an empty cabin.
Moving up a floor you suddenly enter the 'Twilight Zone' where you'll experience breathtaking special effects with optical illusions and unexpected horrors. Ghostly images appear in a corridor, the lights then fade into a black space with twinkling lights at the end of the corridor. You then see the doors of the old guest elevator open, with the guests once again standing inside, only for it and you to suddenly drop!
The lift carries on climbing but at the 13th floor the cable snaps and nothing can prepare you as you plummet 160ft in an exhilirating faster-than-gravity drop into the recesses of the 'Twilight Zone'. For the ultimate thrill hold your arms out and lift your feet slightly off the floor to enhance the zero-gravity effect.
Ride it if you dare!
