If you don't mention gifts with the invitation you will get a lot of people enquiring about gift lists etc. IME most invitees want to give a gift but any note should stress there is absolutely no obligation, you'll just be happy for them to share your day.

We get married next year and are asking for dollars towards our honeymoon. I like the idea of giving a list of meals, tours etc so people know what they cost.

I don't agree at all. Most people want to know. I fail to see how it's bad manners when you know 99% of your guests will want to bring you a gift.

At the end of the day its their wedding and what they want. So who cares what people think. (i hate weddings and all the polotics they bring)

If they live together and dont need things from a traditional wedding list then i would much rather give money they can put to something tehy actually want! . Both my friends who got married this year asked for money towards honeymoon rather than gifts. The one asked us to pay towards a website to pay for their honey moon and the other cash for when they go on honeymoon later in the year.

My closest friends I like to buy something, but discuss with them and bought them a canvas of a wedding picture oftheir choice.

Hate the poems. We didn't state we'd expect gifts on our invites. Close friends and family did ask and we said vouchers. We had some gorgeous gifts from others including lots of champagne

I hate the poems too, don't mind the concept!

One friend recently got married and their gift list was things to do on Honeymoon, so you could have

Park tickets
Parking (controversial)
Meal at Golden Corral
Boat ride
Etc!

She then did photos and tagged on Facebook to thank everyone as they did the activity.

Essentially it was just another way of asking for cash, but I quite liked it

I like that idea

I'm not a fan of the poems at all, and I'd much rather give an experience than a present (if that's what they want). Both cost money so I sort of don't see the difference. I'd like to give them what they want rather than something they don't?

I do think it's a generation thing though , nowadays most young coupes live together first so friends of the couple will understand money is more useful than umpteen toasters and kettles .

My Mil though hates to give money as any kind of present , to her it's not a gift .

My Mum is the same, I much prefer to give money as it's easier all round.
