Mobile San Fran to Veags

Me and the GF are booked up, flying to San Fran on the 24th august and flying out of Vegas the 8th of September

I used this site a lot when I went to Florida and got lots of useful advice and tips, I hadn’t noticed this section  of the website. SO I have booked most of my trip and hotels.
I will put my itinerary on here, any hints, tips places to go or places to avoid would be great. Oh and the GF will be 5-6months pregnant.
Still need to work out where to stay in LA, we want to do Disney but just for a day. We are in LA on the 1st -3rd of September and have no hotels so far. Probably do Disney on the 1st (Thursday)
The rest of the trip is sort of planned (well we have hotels)
Below are the dates and locations of where we are staying on that night.
24th – 26th San Fran (union Square)
2th Monterey
27th San Luis Obispo
29th -30th Santa Barbara

4th -7th Vegas (Strip)

Some of the things we want to see are

Alcatraz
Whale watching
Disney
Hollywood sites
The rest is open to ideas.

Hi - probably the first thing to say is you can't really go wrong with a coastal Calfornian trip in terms of where you want to stay and what to see but having said that it's worth looking at some of the trip reports to see if anything grabs your fancy.

Your planned schedule looks good to me for a 2 week trip. In terms of the main sites to see in each area am sure you're probably already clued up but if not check the trip reports as well as searching general travel sites.

In terms of what you want to do make sure you book Alcatraz well in advance (can do 3 months in advance) as it sells out and also book through the authorised site alcatrazcruises/index.aspx

Whale watching you can do from many places, Monterey on your route is well known for trips. However as you only have 1 night in Monterey you might want to consider leaving it to later in the trip depending on your final plans for LA (as there a number of places in LA (Long Beach) and south of LA such as Newport Beach and Dana Point where you can catch a trip.

For Disney and Hollywood your problem is they are opposite ends of LA with at least an hours drive (non rush hour) between the two so locating at one means a big round trip to the other. You could consider splitting the 3 days between the two but otherwise accept that for at least one day you'll have a decent drive. You could also consider staying in one of the beach areas and driving to other places.

Haven't done Vegas (yet, we head there this summer) but you could look to include a section of Route 66 on the drive from LA (albeit with a slight detour).

Cheers

Cheers for the advice

We planned to stay near Disney for a night then head out towards the beaches for 2 nights. Then drive into "Hollywood" and the other sites.

That would be a good plan. Not sure of other areas but Santa Monica is an easy run up to Hollywood (outside rush hour at least) and passes you through Beverley Hills, Rodeo Drive , Sunset Strip on the way. Personally I'd stay off the freeway and just take the surface streets as then you can stop off as you please.

If you didn't already know then a good place to park is at the Hollywood and Highland Centre. As well as being quite cheap it's also right next door to the Chinese theatre and contains the dolby theatre where the oscars are held. Also a good view of the Hollywood sign from the mall itself.
