New England and Canada
Just in the early stages of thinking about a bit of a Canadian road trip. My initial thoughts are to fly to Boston and drive up the coast of Maine to take in some of the villages, then across to Quebec. I'd quite like to see niagra falls so figured it might be wise to stop off at Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto on the way, possibly flying home from Toronto.
Has anyone done a similar trip? I'd probably only want to spend 2 weeks doing the trip and am thinking about June. Any comments or tips appreciated! |

We went to Toronto two years ago for a week. We hired a car for the day and visit the Niagara falls which were fabulous. You can do Toronto in less time - we took our time!
I understand it is about 5 hours to Ottawa from Toronto. Not yet visited but will have a day there this summer. From Ottawa it is about 2 1/2 h to Montreal and then another 3h to Quebec City. We are off to both this summer. Boston is a lovely city but not my favourite US city. TBH, I think Boston plus Maine plus Quebec plus Toronto plus the falls in 2 weeks is going to be a lot of time in the car! We are spending a week in QC and 5 nights in Montreal (plus 4 nights near Tadoussac and a week on a lake north of Ottawa) and I wonder how we will do everything in QC and Montreal! I would either do Boston and Maine or Canada but not both!

I agree I would do either Boston/New England or Canada - there is more than enough to keep you busy! Also there may be issues with trying to take a hire car across the border - that would have to be checked out.

We stayed in Ogunquit in Maine a few years ago and thought it was fantastic - almost an old fashioned English seaside resort. We had four days there (after a week in NY), then drove back to Boston a a further 4 nights.
Coincidentally, we are visiting Canada next month - Toronto, Niagara, Ottawa and Vancouver. As mentioned above, it would be alot of driving across from the Maine coast to Toronto, but it could be worth looking into flying to Buffalo (NY State) or Toronto - a few hours flight - then flying back from Toronto.

We started in boston drove through vermont into Canada for a few nights in ottowa as its the capital, after that it was back through vemront into new hampshire then ogunquit until we arrived back in boston for 4 nights. All this was done over 3 weeks but the drive from vermont to ottawa was very long and only a detour due to our love of all things Canada.
Boston manchester vermont burlington vermont ottawa barre vermont north conway new hampshire ogunquit maine Boston There may have been places inbetween but i forget, the whole trip was fantastic covering all mountain ranges and major towns in each area and we never felt rushed at all. |

If you can do Nantucket try and add it in - so beautiful. I spent a summer in a summer camp in Maine. It is a wonderful area. Would love to go back.
