Taking a Baby Swimming Advice

My baby is 13 weeks old and I would like to take her swimming. I am so confused with sort of swim wear and nappy etc to use. Any advice?

You definitely need to get swim nappies: they don't expand in quite the same way as normal ones. It's a mistake you wouldn't make twice!

I always used little all in one swimsuits at that age: not cut like a girls swimsuit; it covered the shoulders and went to the knees. I'm not making it sound very attractive, but they were very cute and practical and protected from the sun when at outdoor pools or the beach and they had poppers underneath so you could do a rapid nappy change!

Have fun

They do tiny swim nappies in supermarkets and I'd recommend a swimsuit that's easy to take off afterwards. You'll probably only be in the pool for 25 mins tops as they just get so cold so quickly! Enjoy

Ask if you local pool has parent and baby sessions our local always has a waiting list and your swim nappy is included in the block price saves buying a full packet that you may not use

It's probably all changed now, but 10 years ago, I was told not to take my baby swimming until he had had all of his injections.

I used to take chloe to swimbabes and she wore a Huggies swim nappy and neoprene happy nappy bottoms over and then a matching top. As she started to get cold in the water so she wore a wet suit top. The happy nappies (and top) are Made by splash about, boots do cheapest I found. Is it a normal pool? If so you'll maybe need a wetsuit top (but you might not).

The water is heated to a higher temperature than our local leisure centre, Louis loves it.

Yes. Huggies swim nappy first ( it's like a normal nappy but designed not to swell), then happy nappy over. I liked chloe to have a top bit on so originally we used the frilly top (to match the bottom haha) but then she started getting cold so we swapped to a wetsuit which we found better as it gives them a very small amount of buoyancy too and made them a bit firmer to hold. You can get all in one happy nappy suits but at 13 weeks I'd recommend a wetsuit top (you can buy splash about wet suit vests to match the nappy but they are very pricey) just to save them getting cold. Swimbabes was in a private heated pool, heated for babies and she still got a little cold and a lot of the younger babies did wear them.

I can't remember if I took Chloe before or after her jabs but it's definitely different now as there was some teeny weeny ones in Chloe's class. They took them from 4 weeks! I know I waited until she was a bit bigger (preemie) and until her head control was a little better just to make it easier.
