Fort Lauderdale Cruise - Where to Stay?
Hi
Just booked a cruise leaving Fort Lauderdale around the Caribbean then transatlantic back to Southampton. I have booked flights arriving in Miami 7 days before, so I am looking for a hotel/villa for 7 days in the Fort Lauderdale area (done the theme parks a few times in last few years so not bothered visiting again), so just seeing if anyone can recommend somewhere to stay in the area so we can easily catch the cruise (undecided on car hire). We normally stay on the Gulf Coast side, so never done the East cost, we are 2 adults and a 9 year old, so just wondering where people tend to stay when cruising from Fort Lauderdale. Thanks for any advice. |

Depends on what you want to spend on accomadation.
We always look on trivago for hotels and then narrow the choice down using trip advisor

Thanks for the reply mike4scuba.
I guess like most people, I want somewhere nice and not pay too much ! I guess my question is more about the best areas to stay, as I have never been to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area, there are allot of beaches in that area on google maps, so once I get a few area's, I can check the best value hotels/villas etc. |

We stayed at the Aqua hotel in Fort Lauderdale which has a great location and clean basic rooms. We went on the water taxis one day and caught the boat outside the Hilton Hotel. The hotel looked good and we thought about booking it next time

For our actual night before the cruise we stayed at the Crowne Plaza. They have a shuttle to the cruise terminal. However we got a free shuttle from the car hire which is only a short walk from the hotel.

Something to bear in mind - I think the water taxis are great normally. However, in our three times experiences they are not reliable and run to their own agenda. One visit we stayed a couple of nights at Pier 66 (I think it is called) right next to a stop. We waited for a taxi for over an hour on a half hourly service. Another visit we went out for an evening meal, wanted to board a taxi at one stop and debark at the next stop, which would have saved a 30 minute walk. We arrived at the dock between five and ten minutes prior to the appointed time only to see that the boat had already left and was mid river. A third time we got on the boat having been told I was going one way but instead it went the opposite way. I was soooooo annoyed. I am afraid it spoilt our day.
So be aware if you think of booking a hotel with water taxis in mind. |

Thanks for the replies.
I was looking at the Embassy Suites as an option, I've been surprised how much more the hotels seem to cost in FT Lauderdale compared to Orlando, I guess it comes down to how much accommodation there is in Orlando area. I think having a car will be good as we are there for a week, also means I can stay abit further away, Hollywood looks nice on some of the hotels sites I have seen. |
