fuji s6500

hi
just bought a fujifilm S6500 was wondering if anyone had any tips they can pass on to me that may come in handy?

Im a bit of a novice in the camera world but really want to be able to do more detailed photography so thought this seemed an idea purchase as it appears to have the point and shoot function (that we all love) but also the more intricate functions too.

As I said any help/tips/advise would be greatly appreciated
many thanks in advance

Well done on your new purchase Sarah!

Its useful to know how to use the manual functions on your camera, as for night shots, fireworks and even simple things like shooting in shadows or very bright light they can all be enhanced with a very small amount of knowledge.

My biggest tip is dont be afraid to experiment - its digital, so if you hate the result, just delete it!

Try getting to know each function in turn - if your camera has Aperture or shutter priority modes, these are fantastic to get to grips with the basics. Shutter speed is how long the sensor is exposed to the light and aperture how much light is exposed. Shutter speed is a bit easier to understand - basically very fast speeds will freeze motion and very slow speeds are needed for night or low light shots.

You can master this in Shutter Priority (often Tv on a dial on a digicam) - the camera will worry about all the other settings but you set the shutter speed. This is a GREAT setting for fireworks and its the first semi manual setting Id advise you to play with (Im assuming that this camera does have this function!).

Other than that, try to think about some simple rules (always made to be broken of course ). Dont shoot directly into the sun if you want crisp bright images. Get the sun behind you if you can. When shooting people, especially in the bright Florida sun, then you dont want them squinting, so try and find shady spots so their eyes remain open! If you shoot into the sun, generally your images will be washed out.

Bend down, stand on benches, tilt the camera - get different angles on everything. Take extreme close ups of things like flowers, trees, expressions on faces and building details. These make a change from the usual "snap shots"!

When filming at Disney, take photos of your family watching shows / parades / fireworks as well as the shows themselves. Be aware of the changing light - even your bog standard Castle shot can be transformed with evening sun or thunderclouds!

Most of all, use your camera and enjoy it! The more pics you take the better you will get

Hope that helps a little.
