Update - so got to 14 days before travel, phoned the passport office as soon as they opened. On hold for about 15 mins and then asked to leave my name and number for a call back and amazingly got one...

Thanks! Actually spoke to someone 😍 they’ve told me to phone back 14 days before travel and they’ll upgrade the application so it’s guaranteed in a week but in the mean time, still hoping it arrives...
