What the airports and the airlines need is a short sharp shock All these extra charges and add ons are a con the price for parking to drop off is a disgrace but checked baggage is a total rip of imho
We all need to send them a message Disney etc too, they charge a fortune but pay their staff peanuts whilst shareholders gain what a world, ripping off the people who pay them

Years ago in Cornwall the Renault Gargage had a sign up"Without CUSTOMERS there is no PAYDAY" Something that has stayed with me since

Perhaps we should send that message to all them all We didnt used to leave clothes in the villa but we did this time

They started this new drop off cost back last year before we went in October. So now a taxi/uber from the premier inn costs £10/11 instead of £6/7. It all adds up. 😒

Pure profiteering.

However how many of us, and I include me in this actually formally complain about these shoddy practices?

Bad publicity hurts and 100's of E Mails, Facebook posts etc sometimes makes organisations rethink their policy.

Just a thought.

I absolutely love it, before the charge it was chaos. Now you can pull up loads of spaces and very organised. Yes there is a charge but so much easier.

Manchester airport introduced this drop off fee last year. It's not a new charge.

Drop-off directly at the airport costs £3 for 5 minutes or £4 for 10 minutes. Pick-up costs £4.50 for 30 minutes (although I don't see why you can't use the pick-up location as long as it's timed right). There is a free drop-off site where you can get a shuttle bus. See here.

Local taxi firms should get a discount. So, technically they should only add on around £2 or so. But I know many add on the full £4 to the price, thus gaining an extra £2 or so. Why? Because it's a great way to make more profit!

Erm, thousands of people did complain at the time. It was a big news item on the north-west news when it was announced and then when it actually happened. Of course, whilst people continue to use Manchester airport then Manchester airport will continue to charge these fees. Bad publicity only works if people actually act on that bad publicity and avoid the airport/company/product/whatever.

Apparently, the problem was that the drop-off areas were stupidly busy at times and it caused congestion on the roads around the airport. Although, introducing the drop-off fee ended up causing more congestion. But mainly it's because it's a great way to make more profit, as you say.

BTW, it's not like Manchester is the only one that charges for pick-ups and drop-off. Most other airports charge.

Birmingham introduced a new drop off charge a year or so ago but there was such an uproar about it that they now gave a drop off section just a little way up the road , so a small walk . I believe it's free for 30 mins.

People are also using the motorway hard shoulder to drop off and pick up.
Last month a driver was questioned by Police when they saw what he was doing.
He had no tax or insurance, and was banned, so he was arrested and towed away. A newish AUDI S3 not an old banger.
Police have asked drivers to stop doing it.

The other consequences of the fee increasing if you don't make it out within the ten minutes, are the highly unpleasant queues with people shouting and horns blowing, even coming to blows, with others filming on their phones. Absolutely horrible experience.

We have written several letters to complain, and told them we will use other airports whenever possible. We also now use nearby hotels with parking offers instead.

The management of Manchester Airport are a disgrace.

We should all vote for The Green Party and LibDems so ordinary people won't be able to afford to fly any more. Then we won't need their horrid airport !

Noooooo they are not! Our local authority is one of the co-owners and airport management are making lots of lovely money to help keep our Council Tax down. So, thanks for your support everyone and don’t forget, Manchester is your gateway to the world!👍😂

Yes, free for 30 minutes and only 400m from the terminal. I’ve used it a couple of times over the last year to drop people off and collect.

It was absolute chaos as you have to pay at a pay station which is near the Barrier exit so all cars were reversing left right and centre as there is no path to the pay machine! The taxis were all taking up disabled spots, there was no cover for anyone waiting so luckily it wasn’t pouring down. There were pedestrians with cases all over the roads with it being arrivals , we couldn’t see any other choices except to enter the car park as the arrivals part now has a barrier on it and believe me you do not need this after a 23 hr journey with a 2 hr layover . You want picking up and home. And no there wasn’t loads of spaces as loads of flights had just come in . Absolute farce.
