Bad experience with Desert Cabs, LV

We've just got back from a few days in Vegas and had a great time using cabs and Uber back and forth until we came to take a cab to the airport. We were hailed a Desert Cabs and the minute we got in, the driver started telling us he would get us to the airport as quickly as possible without ripping us off, which immediately put us on our guard.

We told him we had been a few times before and he just kept talking about how other drivers rip everyone off but he doesn't. I felt like saying, Dude, you're trying too hard!

Anyhow, as he was busy telling us how he wasn't going to rip us off, he went the "back way" where there's no traffic apparently. Surprise! Traffic. "Huh, go figure", he said, usually no traffic. Really?! At this point, we have done a massive square and are now flying past the hotel we just left. I pointed this out. "Oh, we would have been sat in traffic longer if I'd gone that way," he said.

We tell him the airline and he said it's terminal one. We arrive at terminal one and can't find the airline curbside so he asks someone and they tell us it's terminal three. At this point dh is ready to tell him to just stop talking or there might be an altercation

He then drives around to go to the correct terminal and almost misses the exit! Dh shouted "GO RIGHT" so we swerve off onto the right road for the terminal otherwise we would have gone around again. His excuse was, he's only been taxiing a year...

The fare worked out at $30 instead of the usual $18-22 that we were told was the norm. We usually have a town car for the airport transfer.

In a nutshell, I can only recommend avoiding this taxi company when in Las Vegas!

Hiya, thanks for the link

No, we didn't and thinking on, there was no permit with his photograph on either. The slip where it should be was empty.

The more we think about it, the more we are sure he was filling in for someone or moonlighting using a friend's cab.

I'm going to contact the cab company and let them know.

I would have gone mad thrown $20 at him and told him to get stuffed...

We had that last trip taxi from airport...to signature suites,I told him which roads I wanted him to take he laughed and tried to charge me loads, told him to call police as not paying think he asked for $40 and said plus tip...I gave him $25 he was not going to open trunk to get suitcase out at first,it all got a bit silly, took out my phone to call police he soon opened trunk...
