I disagree that it’s realistic to assume they’ll pull out of Glasgow too. Why would the Gatwick issue have any impact on Glasgow flights that are already planned anyway?
I have no clue about flights from Glasgow but I had assumed the reason for pulling out of Gatwick and/or other hubs is to concentrate the costs to one place and therefore adopt an economy of scale.

It is clearly more cost effective to fly from one or two bases than from more. Less crew to cover rota, few ancillary staff, reduced costs in management. This is a retreat to the core to survive for Virgin, it therefore may or may not be cost effective to continue with Scottish flights.

For sure they wont continue unless its cost effective and maybe they will get a kick back from the Scottish government or a great deal from the airport, my guess and that's what we are all doing is they are or have been negotiating.

In my simple mind my thoughts are that the Glasgow and other regional routes might be increased , my reasoning for this is that they probably don’t pay as much to use these airports than they do Gatwick and Heathrow and also that it would make sense in the current crisis to avoid making people do connections through London when they can operate a direct route .

I agree about the reason but pulling out of Gatwick and into Heathrow makes sense as they are in the same city. And why announce pulling out of Gatwick now but not Glasgow if that’s the plan all along? Glasgow, Manchester and a London airport will capture most of the country so I think it’s reasonable to keep Glasgow.

I dont doubt you are right as a member of the public who flys but you are not managing a loss making airline who is in deep trouble. How many flights a day go out of Glasgow and what is the cost base to support it, that is what you need to ask.

If the cost base is more than the value then why stay. Cost base is based on scale.

It's about costs, it costs more in crew, management, ground crew and infrastructure to have more tha one base.

I don’t need to be managing the airline to understand that’s what pulling out of Gatwick is about. My point is why announce only Gatwick if the plan is also to pull out of Glasgow? Why not just pull the plaster off and do it all in one go? That’s why I think it’s not happening. If I’m wrong then so be it but I’ll be expecting a refund for the miles I purchased as I’ll no longer be able to use them. Someone who has booked from Gatwick can still go from Heathrow with little inconvenience to them.

Yeah, they should have announced pulling out of Glasgow and Belfast at the same time as Gatwick if thats their plan. Twitter is confusing, one saying they're still going to fly from Glasgow, some saying we are still working on it and others saying only Heathrow and Manchester but also not specifically saying Glasgow is cancelled.

Exactly - a shambles with us not having any idea what is happening.

BA offer connecting flights because they offer domestic routes and I don't see them rolling out the welcome mat to Virgin anytime soon.

Easyjet don't fly to LHR or MAN from Glasgow so they'd be out.

They haven't announced they're pulling out but putting some realism on it, it's highly likely that when Virgin start flying again that its going to be from LHR & MAN and they haven't cleared up that mess yet which will be their priority.
Virgin do use BA for connecting flights to London, or I should say they have used them in the past.
