Curious about car hire between 2 countries. Do they charge a lot more?

Thanks

Interesting question, I'd not thought of that. If we hired a car in Vancouver and dropped it off in Seattle I wonder how that works

They would charge extra for another country drop off and you should inform them you intend to drive it over the border even if you are returning to the same site.

The good news (compared to the east coast border crossing) is that they dont have tolls over in the pacific north west so you dont need to worry about toll systems not being on the cars. We did a road trip to the US starting in Montreal and we had to make sure we didnt go through a single electric toll booth which was a pain. They have a few bridge cashless tolls in NJ that we had to avoid.

We enjoyed a great road trip in Washington visiting Seattle, Winthrop, Mount Rainier, Quinalt and the Sol-duc hot springs. Also visited Forks (where it was raining ) which was at the height of its fame as the setting for Twilight.

A fun way of getting from Seattle to Vancouver Island was the Sea-Cat. We bought a package from Victoria Clipper which included 3 nights in a hotel and a trip to Butchart Gardens, so we didn't use a car at all on the island. You could then catch a ferry to Mainland BC and hire another car for the remainder of your trip which would do away with needing to take a car accross the border. (or do the trip in reverse)
