Car Hire in Orlando
Hello, first post but have found this site very useful so far.
I need to book car hire for 2 weeks in October but I have a dilemma as to what 'package' I need to go for. I have discovered that many car hire firms do not cover tyres, underneath the car, windows etc on their insurance. This worries me as it seems its not just a question of paying an excess, it seems you are responsible for the full cost. It has been recommended to me by a friend that I should try US rent a car which offers a platinum package where tyres etc are also covered but costs about £90 more than the basic package. I'm currently looking at booking a car with Dollar or Hertz (not Alamo as I'm flying Virgin) so my question is - Is it really necessary to get this extra cover? I'm worried I'm being too cautious, chances are I won't need to claim but its the open ended cost of replacing tyres etc that concerns me! Any advice will be greatly appreciated |

This is generally extra cover that the car hire companies try to flog to you to make a little commission, some take it for peace of mind, many don't (I'm in the latter group).
£90 seems a little high for that and I suspect Usrentacar's platinum cover is for much more than just tyre damage etc. In fact I suspect it includes the tank of fuel but why not contact them and ask them. I've used Usrentacar on many occasions and can thoroughly recommend them. Whatever you decide to go with, do it here rather than waiting till you get to Florida, as it is very likely to cost you a lot more over there at a car hire desk |

http://www.essentialtravel.co.uk . Look at this site for tyres, windscreen etc. I think that you are worrying too much. How many times have you paid for a windscreen in the UK?
