We stayed in a loft apartment in South Beach ( private rental).
There is no need for a car on south beach its very easy to get around on foot ( parking can be very expensive at the hotels) We loved south beach , great for people watching but on the expensive side, will definitely go back on our return to Florida

Hi
We flew into Miami last Summer and had a couple of days there before moving up the west coast. We stayed at the Holiday Inn hotelsone/miami-hotel...FQTMtAodYzsAVQ across the road from Bayside (2 minutes walk) baysidemarketplace/ had a fabulous time. We went on the boat tour looking at Millionaire's Row and the gorgeous Miami Skyline (There was a cocktail bar just at the side so we all got a mojito for our trip ) The atmosphere at Bayside was really good with lots of music and people dancing. The Holiday inn was great for what we needed, lovely rooms and a great pool area at the back. Hope you have a great time. Lisa |

We have been holidaying in Sunny Isles twice a year for the past 25 years. The beach is beautiful, it's not particularly touristy, and it is within easy of reach of lots of good eating places, and the airport and Aventura Mall, which has the best shopping. You can stay quite cheaply at places which are actually on the beach: Monaco Travelodge and Thunderbird Best Western are two. They are old-style motel-type places, long past their best, but if all you want is a nice comfortable room on the beach and you're not bothered about luxury, they will be fine. Monaco is better; ask for a poolside or oceanfront room, but emphasise that you don't want a garden room. There is a massive hotel being built next door, but we didn't find this disruptive. All the other hotels along Sunny Isles beach are massive skyscrapers, and will be very expensive. You will pay $10 a night to park at Monaco and Thunderbird.

Thanks everyone that is very helpful, we quite like the idea of sunny isles being not particular touristy after 11 days in Orlando so it sounds ideal I will check the hotels you mentioned. Also check out the holiday inn so decisions decisions...
