Fairfx card for Vegas and surrounding area
Neither of our adult sons have credit cards, and aren't keen to have one. Are Fairfx cards, or similar, widely accepted in Vegas and surrounding states. We are doing a road trip including Utah and Arizona.

Yes they are , I've used one several times .
I tend to use Caxton cards and I've found if you use a Chase bank ATM ( one near the south outlets in Vegas ) you don't pay any fees . |

I just walked by Thomas Cook in town and picked up two application forms for their travel card. They should be fine I reckon as it's MasterCard

We also use Caxton cards and not had any issues.
Have seen some reports that some places have started putting additional holds on restaurant bills which can take a few days to come off. Not had it myself but something to be aware of with pre-paid cards. Some people just use them as a way to load money on at a decent rate and then just go and get cash from an ATM. This avoids the hold issue if that is a concern. |

Caxton info says no charge at ATM's in the US. It doesn't mention using specific ones. Is this right

We've not used our Caxton card in Vegas but have used it many times in Florida and Canada and it's been fine. We've had the occasional hiccup in Walmart but it always gets sorted. We do tend to used it more for loading money on and then taking cash out for spending rather than using it for paying for meals etc.

I've only used mine in chase banks so I'm not sure
The post above is correct about holds though . If you pay in a restaurant or for a hotel with a pre paid card they do place a hold on it which can take a couple of weeks to release . I rarely use mine to pay for anything I use it to get cash from a ATM , that works best for us . |

Caxton don't charge you to withdraw, but the bank ATM may do. In Vegas we used Walmart (was $2 per withdrawal). The ATM's in the casino's wouldn't let us take money out using the Caxton. If you come across a Wawa gas station, there ATM's don't charge

I've used a FairFx card on several trips to Vegas. Easy to use and accepted for payments just as a normal credit/debit card would be.
I wouldn't use any pre-pay card for hotel incidentals due to the large hold the hotels place on them and they're not accepted as a deposit for hire cars. |

Yes that's why I use chase they don't charge for withdrawals , only one I know of near the Vegas strip is at the south outlets which we pass about 4 times per day .
I have used our cards on odd occasions to withdraw cash from casino ATMs but I couldn't tell you if it was fairfx or Caxton as we have had both . Got Revoult to try this year because it gives a slightly better rate . |
