This is why it's a good idea to do most of spending on a Halifax or Post Office Credit card. Then you get the proper rate. I hardly take any cash nowadays.

The only issue with that is that you don't know what the rate will be when you go. So, do you lock in a rate now by getting cash or using a card like revolut, or gamble with what the rate will be when you travel? I have a clarity card which I generally use if I'm prebooking things from US sites or for any extra spends when we're there, but I do change up cash when I'm happy with the rate to lock it in. Sometimes I win, sometimes I lose, but it all evens out in the end. We don't go back until October 2019, but part of me is wondering whether to get a bit of cash now, or wait and see what happens as we're still a long way off.

I cant see it holding this high for long. One bit of bad news, like UK growth not as good as expected or bank of England results and it will drop like a stone again. Its a very fragile growth that has happened due to a few outside factors that could easily turn against us again. Grab 1.4+ while you can.

Trumpy may like to brag it’s because of him but those in the know reject this profusely! Lol
As per my other post, the prediction by the financial bods is it has peaked and will drop shortly, something to do with a phenomena about the Denmark 13 thingy. It goes over my head but I am buying today ready for nyc in March!

We are not travelling until May 2019 but I am so tempted to get some changed now. But then I’m worried in case I get it wrong. 😕

We travel in July, we've still got a fair amount on our card from pre-Brexit but I don't know whether to top up now or hold my nerve!

Decisions, descisions.
My worry is that if I change say £500 onto maybe a post office travel card will I shoot myself in the foot if something happens and I can’t travel !

I think I'm going to get some cash now. If something happens and we can't travel, I know that I'll be able to change it back or sell it on - might win or lose on that depending on what happens. Goodness knows what's going to happen with Brexit and how that will affect things. We're not big spenders, so normally only take around $600 - $800, so think I'll get half now and then see what happens for the rest. For $800 the difference between 1.4 and 1.3 is £44, so not a huge amount, but every little helps
