Dogs coping with the heat

Had a bit of a scare on Tuesday, dog had heatstroke, emergency trip to vets, steroids and large bill later we were taking him home. He did seem ok, then went downhill quickly, hence the emergency vet, wednesday and yesterday he wasnt happy, as we kept him in, our house stays quite cool, but back garden gets scorching! But today its cooler and he is still feeling sorry for himself. I dont think he was impressed with the cooling jacket and bandana we got for him. His nose is cool and wet but just doesnt seem his bouncy self, he's only 15 months so usually up to something wanting to play etc, but not at moment. How is everyones furry friends doing?

My poor wee girl got her leg amputated last week due to catching her back paw in a fence 😢 broke in so many places vet said there was nothing they could do to save it. She then got an infection in the wound so on antibiotics. So she’s was quite happy to stay in in the coolest room sleeping all day

Poor thing. Hopefully being on painkillers should help her. I am always amazed at seeing how cats and dogs cope with losing limbs. Wishing her the best of luck in her recovery.x

Our Visla is happy to stay indoors the staffie Frenchie and the rescue
Weimaraner pup it’s a battle to keep them In especially the Frenchie
She never seems to bother with the heat
They do all lie on the slate floor in the mud room in the evenings though
Hope both the dogs do better soon

Our elderly rescue dog is happy to lie on the tiled floors.

My pugs don’t do well in heat. So walks are minimal and they just laze around the house. One of them knows hard floors are a good place to lie, the other one always wants to be near a human so if I am on the sofa so is he.

This is my boy just now, he is cooling off with DH in the home office.

FeFe your dog is gorgeous, hope she soon recovers. My Westie didn’t go for a walk till 8.20pm and was very tired all day, same today as I could take her now but it’s too hot already. She needs her hair cut but has to wait till Sunday, she is lying in front of the fan and has two paddling pools to cool her down!

Tilly has learned that shower cools her down. When she is hot & panting she pesters us until we follow her then she sits in front of the shower screen looking at the shower and refuses to move until she is showered. When wet she bursts to life and happy again.

We do have to keep her in though because if the door is open she goes and sleeps in the sun 🙈
We can only walk her after 7pm when its hot 🥵

We have two boxers, one is a sun worshipper and was wanting to stay out yesterday but was made to come in. Both have cool coats. Hopefully we'll walk them late tonight.
