Can anyone advise?
I'm not sure this is the right topic, but I'm after a little bit of information.
My son is diagnosed with severe ADHD, and possibly being on the ASD spectrum. The SENCO at the school isn't brilliant, but at a meeting two weeks ago, when I told her we'd been advised by my sons Psychiatrist that we should apply for an ECHP to help him in school, she said we shouldn't as the funding is taken out of the schools budget, and therefore the other children would lose out. This has been bugging me, and despite trawling the web I can't find any information that confirms or denies this. Does anyone know if its true?

It depends on whether it is a Local Authority Funded EHC. This would only be determined after the EHC is granted. In a sense she is correct because she is saying that the 'notional' £6000 which goes towards each child's funded EHC is taken from the school's SEN budget. This is then 'topped up' with additional LA funding. eg. in our area a 'moderate' needs EHC funding is @£5000 which added to the notional £6000 = £11000 which will provide for 1:1 support etc. Therefore that £6000 has to then be ring fenced for your child rather than being used for a variety of different children

I would ask that he gets seen by an educational Phycologist who will then put recommendations to the school.

Thank you everyone.
We see an Ed Psychologist every couple of months, there is no-one else for ADHD in our area, which is a whole other thread in itself. I'll have a chat with the SENCO again and see what she can clarify, thanks again
