One of the ideas I was given was to turn off the water to it and empty it then cover with a paste of vinegar and bicarb. Must admit I didn't try that and decided I could live with the stains being "clean" IYKWIM until we changed the loos.

Love your idea Mr T, but hoping we are coming to the end of our house surprises!

Someone I work with had this problem, my friend told her to pour a big bottle of coke down there which did the trick apparently, could try that?

We had this when we moved in. It was just stained limescale. We bought Harpic toilet bleach & limescale remover, left it on for a few hours then gave a really good scrub and it worked a treat

This is a constant battle for me living in a hard water area. I buy the harpic tablets that day non scrubbing. Leave as long as possible and scrub the loo. Gets it clean. I also use the bloo blocs which helps but it’s just rinse and repeat to get rid. Perseverance does work.

Yep, I know someone who did that, cleaned the toilet, left the bathroom in one hell of a mess😂

White vinegar is the only thing that worked for me and I think the idea of making a paste is brilliant, not to bother emptying the tank or anything though but the paste would be so much easier to apply under the lip of the bowl to be left to soak in. done once a month would keep the limescale at bay .

I've used spirits of salt in the past. Leave overnight and it normally just wipes off. Make sure you leave windows open as it is quite potent!

Try viakal

It was brilliant in getting rid of some limescale in our bath. Tried scrubbing, bleach etc which didn't work. Sprayed some of that stuff on & left it a bit & it came off like magic.
