If I book a BA flydrive do they want the age on departure or age on return?
We're currently considering a BA flydrive for next year. DD is likely to turn 16 whilst we're away. Does anyone know if I book her as being 15 (she will be on departure) or 16 (she will be on return). Thanks

Age on departure.
The only time age matters is when you travel out with a little one under 2 outbound but over 2 on the return - as BA will provide you with a seat free of charge for the inbound segment as anyone 2 or over has to have their own seat. For this arrangement you just pay an infant fare of 10%. The other siutation for age is to do with taxes for 12-15 year olds where they are treat as young adults and generally pay less than 16 +. You should be OK for this fare on your fly-drive. Edited at 01:12 PM. |

It would be 16 I think, well thats what they told me when I was considering booking for next Feb so would have been over my DD's birthday 11 going out and 12 coming back

Ooh 2 different answers, now I'm even more confused. I seem to recall we had a similar issue when we booked when DD was 11 then travelled when she was 12. Think we may have booked her as a child when it should have been a young adult but I wasn't sure if it was age on booking or flight. Lucky we didn't have any issues that time. 🤣
Think I might need to give them a call?!

I've remembered what made that confusing was that we booked 2 cars with our flights and the first car hire was on a separate trip earlier in the year before she turned 12!🤣 I don't think it would let me put her as a young adult because of that.
Anyway I've now seen an information box that says its age on departure making her a young adult for the flights but if I look at a flydrive it seems different and only lets you select adult, child 2-17 or infant and then asks for their age but doesn't specify on departure! Think I'll have to presume it's departure. Not sure we can book anything yet anyway as still don't know when exams are but prices already seem to have gone up a bit since the other day. On another note are BA flying direct from both Heathrow and Gatick to MCO next July/August as if I select to see alternative flights it comes up with a direct from Heathrow as well as Gatwick?

Thanks I hadn't realised they were continuing next summer. I'll have a look at Heathrow as well as it's closer.
