Mobile Travel insurance when taking niece.

All being well we are hoping to go to Florida next year and take my niece with us.
With travel insurance am I best to get her, her own policy or can she come on ours as part of a group one? We don’t live in the same household, not sure if that makes a difference.

What does it say in the terms of your policy with regards to who can travel on it? If you're unsure it's probably best to ask your insurers.

Haven’t got one yet, given all that’s going on with Covid I was waiting a bit. Some allow me to do a group quote but I wasn’t sure if living in different households affect it.
I will check with an insurer once we look but I know a lot of dibbers have done the same so was hoping they could advise.

You all need to be on the same policy. Reason: suppose, God forbid, your niece needed ongoing extended treatment while there, or perhaps needed to return early. Her insurance would of course cover her, but if you are with a different insurer, they may well take a different view and not cover your expenses for staying on with her, or the extra costs incurred in returning early.

Great point! Thank you, that hasn’t even crossed my mind!

I used to regularly take my niece on holiday with me and she was added to my policy at no additional cost. This was with Virgin Travel but I think they started to charge for her when she turned 12 yrs. Worth checking out?

That’s good to know thank you! So no issues with having them on the same policy as us?

You just need to tell your insurance company that she doesn't live at your address. Some may still set it up as family, some as a group but either way you are better off on same policy whatever they choose to call it.

We take our Granddaughter quite often.

I always get her Policy separately to us as she can't be added on to the one we have. There is no issue about one of us staying on with her if God forbid she went into Hospital as the Policy clearly states that is covered.
I look for 3 things:-

Defaqto rating
Min of $1m medical
Quidco cashback.
